If I use something like anyDVD or DVDFab to rip a dvd to hard drive, is there any advantage to creating a single VOB vs. leaving it as multiple VOB's?

Is the single VOB just the main movie, or all of the video on the dvd? Will Handbrake (or Ripbot or MeGui or other tool) still see all the different clips, even though it's a single VOB?

Hope what I'm asking makes sense.

Thanks.

You may be thinking of an ISO, which can be one large file and contain all the video on a DVD disk. That's not the case when ripping to a single VOB.

I'm referring to the option in DVDShrink (and MagicDVDRipper) to create a single VOB file instead of creating (I assume) the normal multiple VOB files that I normally see when I've ripped a DVD to the hd. What is the difference, if any, of choosing that method over the "normal" method?

The DVD specification does not allow for vobs to be larger than 1GB. If you playback on a standalone dvd player you must not make one "large" vob.

Some people find one large vob easier to work with instead of 5 or 6 1GB vobs. For example, if you were to edit the movie or convert it to some other format.

It's the same content no matter if its one large vob or a "multi" as you called it.

Thanks for the clarification on that! Much appreciated.
