At work we are trying to decode ATSC HDTV. Our hardware is restricted to a 1.6GHz Pentium M CPU.

We currently license the Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder, and in tests, decoding 1080i (Over-The-Air) utilizes 88-100% of the CPU. This usage is rather too high, since it begins to impede the operation of other software.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a higher-efficiency MPEG2 decoder, preferably packaged as a DirectShow filter

Thanks!

ffmpeg and libmpeg2 both have extremely fast MPEG-2 decoders; I don't know which one is faster on modern CPUs though.
