I am having trouble reading a DVD. The disc when put into my drives will try to load but never loads. The light on the drive will flashing for a while but it never recognizes the disc.
The disc is Disc 6 of the Studio Ghibli Movie Collection, containing Nausicaa and Pom Poko. It is DVD-9, unencrypted. I just want to make a backup copy.
Here are the drives I've tried this on:
Sony Playstation 2: sometimes will load but often says there's an error with the disc. When it does load, I can watch the movie.
SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616T: disc spins and tries to load but never loads. Firmware:F311
_NEC DVD_RW ND-3520AW:: same as on Samsung. Firmware:3.04
Ripping software: DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
OS: Windows XP SP3 w/ all updates. The same problems are also in Linux.
Looking at the surface of the disc, there are no visible blemishes, scratches, etc. It is disc 6 out of 6 and the other 5 discs ripped with no difficulty (they aren't even encrypted).
Anyone have suggestions about how to proceed? Am I just out of luck for making a backup? Is there some way to do low level stuff that forces the drive to read even though it thinks nothing is there?
I'm not sure if this is against the rules or not but if anyone else happens to own this Ghibli Movie Collection, I'd be interested to know if you are able to backup disc 6 or not.
