I am wanting to extract some video from some HD video files I have for viewing on PS3. However, I need to split the files through an MPEG splitter in order to not lose any video quality. The files I have been using are .mkvs which have been converted to MPEG using mkv2vob. I have then tried to split the MPEG file with some programs which were recommended in the following thread:

Trying to do this results in the files not being recognised.

A further problem occurs with some of my files when converting them to MPEG with mkv2vob, whereby the resulting file will have no audio.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where did you get the HD MKV files?

They are from an HD camcorder - my friend compressed them to mkv. I converted them using mkv2vob so we could view them on my PS3, but now I want to split a certain scene out of the files but am unsure how.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

What are the audio and video file format types within the .MKV file?

You can use an application such as "MediaInfo" to find out.

For the MPEG which I want to split, it has one AVC video stream and one AC-3 audio stream.

I don't have the source files anymore.

It should be AVCHD + AC-3! These are the only 2 codecs allowed under AVCHD standard for consumer camcorders.

Just to clarify, it was AVC HD and AC-3, but I thought only the AVC part was important.

Can anyone please help?
