hi guys,i have sucessfully managed to back-up a blue ray disc movie only onto a dvd9 but i am only able to play this back-up on my sony blue ray player.it wont play on the other dvd players i have around the house.the reason for doing the back-ups is so that the kids dont get their gritty little hands on my blue rays.
is there a way to make these discs playable on normal dvd players???our forum college GAPONY has helped me out quite a bit by telling me to uncheck the stricker compliance to avchd box but that has not helped.any ideas guys>???really apreciate your assistance with this.
cheers guys

Are you seriously asking why a blu ray disc (regardless of what it's burnt on) won't play on a dvd!! Look for some software (there's loads) to produce a dvd from a high def source.

ermmm..yea..i am...maybe you didnt read my post correctly..i have burned a movie from a blue ray to a dvd9 using bd rebuilder and imgburn but my question is i want to play these discs on a regular dvd player and not on my blue ray player and was asking if there are any tweaks in the bd rebulder or imgburn process to make these copies more normal dvd player friendly.like i said above,i am trying to get back-ups of my movies for my other players in the house without the kids getting their fingers on my blue ray discs.they are quite expensive to import to the u.k so am looking for a solution...hope this clears that up...thx

There is software out there that can convert an MKV or AVI file into a movie-only DVD. So if you extracted and converted (mpeg2, 720x480/576, etc.) to one of those you could do as you want.

ConvertXToDVD fro VSO Software would do the job but it's not free although a trial is available...god I feel dirty like I'm promoting them...but it works pretty well.

And it takes about and hour or so on my Q6600 3.4ghz with an MKV running at 1080p
For a 110% freeware converter have a look at AVI2ISO, it uses HCEnc and avisynth so is a lot slower and it basically rebuilds the video to match the best bitrate it can get on a single DVD but the final quality is much better than convertxtodvd

Yea... ConvertXDVD does work well. I'd highly recommend starting with a Movie Only copy from BD Rebuilder, so you just have the single .m2ts file to deal with.
On another point... If anybody is interested in streaming their Blu-Ray movies to their PS3, the Movie Only, single .m2ts file works especially well.

You can create your own menus and chapter breaks.. I'm not sure about keeping the original ones, but I never tried.
Why not try it out on the free trial period... then you know what you have.
