a long time i did 5.1(24b/96k) flacs following tebasuna51 tutorial.
i want to decompress this flacs as wave to do DVD-A.(24b/96k)
i can open this flacs in adobe audition but this program only can save as wave in 16b or 32b and i don't want to change the bitdepth.
sound forge have some advantages in this case because can open multichannel tracks and save in 24b but i can't open flacs in this program.
have some "flac plugin" like have for audition to use in sound forge?
edit: sound forge have flac plugin to open this files but for unknow reasons open only few seconds of each track.

eac3to input.flac output.wav
Don't forget to have a madflac decoder.
And check out this:

You'll find there free trials as well.

You're welcome!
If you need some more tips:
So, afaik you have two options:
First: Decrypt mlps and leave them as they are:
Follow the steps one to four here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1254323#post1254323
Put mlp(s) into an mka container via mkvmerge gui.
Open this mka via graphstudio/graphedit or MPC-HC:
Register matroskasplitter.ax under standalone MPC-HC filters.
And here is the chain:
mpc matroska Source > ffdshow > Default Direct sound device

Second: Convert them to flac:
Follow the steps five to six here:

Or use the flac command line encoder/decoder:
flac -d input.flac

rica, my files are .flacs, not MLPs.
but thank you for this guide, i will need later for DVD-A sources.

tebasuna51,
i can open or decode the .flac files in a.audition but not in sound forge, flacdrop or using flac command line as you posted.
copied from dos:
"A1: ERROR initializing decoder
init status = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_INIT_STATUS_ERROR_OPENING_FILE
An error occurred opening the input file; it is likely that it does not exist or is not readable.
Ramble: ERROR initializing decoder

Tamble.flac: ERROR initializing decoder

can be the spaces in the title track name?

Try with:
flac -d "A1 Ramble Tamble.flac"
from dos:
"A1 Ramble Tamble.flac: ERROR initializing decoder
init status = FLAC__STREAM_DECODER_INIT_STATUS_ERROR_OPEN
ING_FILE

flac -d "A1 - Ramble Tamble.flac"

i still need to open multichannels flacs in sound forge to change levels in some channels without decompress everything(LFE in special).
i have SF 9 with option to open flacs but i can open only few seconds of each track. (a little more than 1 second)
the "flacplug.dll" is from 01/31/08 and the help file say "You can use the FLAC plug-in to import and render WAV and WAV64 files."
is needed to buy the SF new version or have any other way to put it working changing the "flacplug.dll"? (geez)
hints please. :)

Please put a MediaInfo report of you flac file.
But open a flac in a wav editor is decompress your file, after you need recompress to flac. mediaInfo? i don't know, where to find?
i have the ac3to log only
eac3to v3.17
command line: eac3to sample88.wav sample88.flac
-------------------------------------------------------
WAV, 5.1 channels, 0:03:11, 24 bits, 12701kbps, 88.2khz
Reading WAV...
Encoding FLAC with libFlac...
Creating file "sample88.flac"...
The original audio track has a constant bit depth of 24 bits.
eac3to processing took 1 minute, 28 seconds.
Done.
and yes, i know that need to recompress(is lossless, no problems).
in adobe auition is possible to "insert" 5.1 flacs in "multitrack view" but i can't export as flac in "multichannel encoder" after few changes, only is possible as waves or WMA.
in audition "edit view" have the 6 mono channels and i can save as flac 6 channels but not multichannel.
sound forge open the entire 5.1 file for editions, no individual mono files, this is why i want to use this program to do few changes and save as multichannel flac....
(not working as is not openning flacs but works perfectly for waves)

Seems I was missing something.
You convert a wav (88.2 KHz from where?) to flac, to be open in Sounforge, to edit something an after reconvert to flac.
Maybe you can edit the sample88.wav before convert to flac?
Sorry I don't know for what SoundForge don't open your flac files correctly.

Seems I was missing something. is really confuse, my fault as i was not so clever.
You convert a wav (88.2 KHz from where?) to flac, to be open in Sounforge, to edit something an after reconvert to flac. the wav is converted in eac3to to flac and sound forge don't open the flac files(multichannel flacs in 48/24, 88.2/24 or 96/24)
Maybe you can edit the sample88.wav before convert to flac? yes, i can edit the waves and save as wav only because if i save as .flac in sound forge i got an empty file flac.
as i'm doing my upmixes to 5.1 multichannels flacs and trashing the waves sources, later i can't edit anything if needed in this program. using ac3to or adobe audition to edit this flacs, i get 6 mono wav files but i am trying using SF as it can open multitracks...well, maybe SF can't open multichannels flacs or save multichannels waves to flacs, the help file don't have details about that.
Sorry I don't know for what SoundForge don't open your flac files correctly. me too tebasuna, is really a mystery.
and thanks so much for your great support as always. :)
i'm thinking now what to test...
i can decompress the multichannel flac to multichannel wav using ac3to, open this wave in SF, edit something and save as multitrack wav again.
then i encode this edited multitrack wav to flac with ac3to...all is lossless and will work, right?
edit: i did this test above and works!!!
