Convert 500 files in one action...

Hi,

i have to convert a big quantity of mpeg2 files. I need to do that in the simplest e and fastest way it could be possible. The best would be to drag in one action all my "n" mpeg2 files in the gui.
So hightlight them and assign to all the same h264 preset i want.
Ans so start the conversion that will convert automatically each file in succession.

Is there any gui i could use for this?

In one go, if I were going to do it that way I would suggest ASXgui, other available options Menix or Automen.

I tried them. they are all nicy sw.
i like asxgui but, i don't know why, it doesn't convert mpeg2 source...

MeniX is ok but the mp4 resulting file misses the header to let it buffered in a web player. for example if i re-mux by mp4 muxer of Megui i solve the problem and the file can be buffered in the web player. Off course is a problem beacuse megui is not able to accept a big "drop" of n files to be muxed...

Any ideas?

Try version 2.2.6 of ASXGui, I fixed a bug with mpeg2 source files.

Hi!
i've just tested you update. loading mpeg2 source, it seems to go fine but it stops to encode audio sayng "there no function name NicMPAsource"...
Only withm mpeg2 source. If I load for example and avchd source file, it converts perfectly with no errors!

PS will the encoded and muxed file generate a .mp4 file with atom reader to be buffered in a web player without waiting a completed loading of the file?

You can also try the file batch mode in StaxRip, please let me know if it don't work right.

thnks, it seems to work!
or, at least, it seems ok under seven 32 bit.
But i have some troubles under xp sp3...the encoding starts and it seems to go fine but, during muxing in mp4 file, there's a stop and I have this error:
"mp4 muxing failed with exit code -1073740791"

i did different attempts but i can't solve.
Could you help me?

Just overwrite the mp4box that comes with staxrip with the files contains within. It is a development version, but should work perfectly fine for you.

You have 3 options, option 1 and 2 are identical, just 2 different ways to use the option.


Choose 'Use wrong version' in the warning dialog
Disable the warning dialog in the 'External Applications' dialog
Use version 1.1.1.4 beta which includes the new MP4Box build (best option)

i downloaded last version and it seems to work better!

just one problem...i created my x264 profile to load...i would like to batch 10 files for example. These files are different lenght but i would like to encode all at 700kbps...How can i do?
i'm doing many attempts..but i can't. only if i choose to load one file I can set the bitrate i want...

Are you sure not using quality mode instead?

Yes you're right but the problem is that i need to load that compressions on webplayer where i need a 700kbps bitrate more or less to be sure to satisfy alla king of connections!!
(remember i am in italy...yes there are some fast connections that reach 20mbit, but many people has just slow connections.. :D ).

However the problem is that if I load my preset before to "batch" my 10 files source, even if I set 700kbps, in the near left little window the program set a big file size (that will prevail against bitrate). In this way when I load batch files the encode will be a 10mbit bitrate or near...I can solve to set a small file size but i don't really solve the problem since my source file are different lenghts...so, for example, if i set 5mb file size, i will have 700kbps only for 1 minutes clip...but for a 2 minutes clip i will have half bitrate that for my kind of clip are really too little...

I understand, StaxRip always calculates the bitrate from the filesize and adds the bitrate dynamically to the x264 command line. There is no way to disable this behavior so you have to use a simple workaround:

x264 dialog -> 'Command Line' tab -> Add to all -> enter: --bitrate <int>

You have then two '--bitrate' switches in the command line, the first one is the dynamically created one and the second one is the manually created one. x264 uses the second one ignoring the first one, manually entered switches are always added at the end of the command line, they always override switches that already exist in the command line. Don't forget to take the audio bitrate into acount.

in the meanwhile i tried a q.based of Q=25: in the kind of video i am encoding i had a target files with medium bitrate in the range of 600-800 kbps...

only one thing: i have some troubles with files name with comma inside. (the problem seems to be of dgindex...do you think Neuron could be solve the problem?)

I'm not 100% sure if DGIndex still has this limitation, StaxRip does however still assume it has. neuron2 don't has interest in user interfaces but rather signal processing, there are only few people like Avery Lee having interest in both. Somebody ideally with experience and interest in this could offer to provide a patch.
