One of my systems has Vista Home Premium 64 (SP2). One of the useful (to me) desktop enhancements is the miniature versions of running programs and open folders that appear above the taskbar when you hover the mouse over the minimized item on the taskbar.

With absolutely no discernible consistency regarding either time or nature of activity, this feature sometimes simply decides to disappear/stop functioning, requiring a reboot to be re-activated:

1) Does anyone know what causes this?

2) Does anyone know how to re-activate this function without rebooting?

Thank you.

Is windows Aero still turned on? certain apps can cause aero to be turned off, such as those that use overlays. Does the windows title bar still have the translucent effect or is it solid? Turning aero off disabled the transparent title bars when not in full screen, among other things.

If by "the windows title bar" you mean the uppermost part of an opened window, yes, I can still see through it to the desktop.
