How do I get s-video out from NVidia GForce 4

Sorry, dumb question, but it has been so long....

I just got an old computer and an old TV, and I want to play videos from the computer to the TV. The TV has an s-video in, & the computer has an s-video out, with a GeForce4 card. I have plugged the svideo cable from the computer to the tv, with no result. I can not remember how to tell the PC to output to the svideo port. Can anyone help me.

First check your TV, unplug the s-video cable from the TV and turn it on, turn on the computer, let it boot, then plug the cable into the TV it may auto detect the S-vid being pluged in, others are if you have multiple input to the tv, ie scart, s-vid, composit, you may have to set up the TV to select to S-Vid, ( on mine you can set up a channel to select the only one type of input and save the config ).

As for the graphics cards ... I not familar with the Gforce ( except the old cartoon ), I have an ATI, but you may have to set up the graphics card in its "controle pannel" to either mirror your main display, or extend the desktop to this monitor, and make sure the output is correct NTSC or PAL.

Point of note, my card has a theater mode, you may get a Black window on your main monitor, and the video on the TV as a result, this happens.

You also need the proper drivers for the card - yes, it should auto-detect the S-video plugged in as the primary display, and if it doesn't you may have to connect it to a VGA display and search for the correct drivers. You should be able to find them online - lots of sites have out-of-date drivers.

If you have both a monitor and the TV plugged in, just right-click on the desktop and select Properties, click the Settings tab and you should see display #2 (if the correct drivers are in place). Right-click it and select Enable.

Don't plug the s-video into the tv when either are turned on...

Tv's especially older ones create a ton of static. I killed a video card doing that lol. Plugged it in, saw a very small static zap next to my fingers plugging the s-video into the tv, my pc instacrashed, video card = toast.

does this still happen with the newer TVs, I know it used to happen with the old ones, and not just the TVs my old VCR had the same grounding problem.

Did you tried to enable Force TV detection from nVidia's drivers?

After plugging it in and booting up ur pc go to the nvidia control panel. I clone my monitor to my tv on my laptop, then I match the max res of my tv with the laptop desktop res.
