View Full Version : Halp! Can't figure out how to IVTC Ninja Scroll NTSC

Hey guys...

Nasty little anime source today... Ninja Scroll NTSC.

Source is 60i, and appears to have a mixture of combed and progressive frames with no specific pattern. According to AnimeIVTC this is "double hard telecine"... Incidentally, mode2 for animeivtc seems to do a nice job, but it's very very slow.

I'd like to try other methods. Maybe you guys can help me out.

Inspecting the fields reveals occasional blended fields *yuck*

So, I'm not sure how to proceed.

Here's a sample:

Yadif(Mode=1,Order=1)#or your favorite bobber
SRestore(FRate=23.976)

That does a fair job. But don't expect all the blending to disappear as there's just too much of it.

@ Manono,

Thanks for the advice. The results are satisfactory with yadifmod+nnedi, and some fft3dgpu+gradfunkmirror.

As a sidenote, I put this annoying project aside, but came back to it.

For posterity's sake - here's the script I ended up using:

#Input NTSC 60i 4x3
FFT3DGPU(plane=4, sigma=.8, sigma2=1, sigma3=1.5, sigma4=.8, interlaced=true)

edi=NNEDI(field=-2)
YADIFMod(mode=1, edeint=edi)

SRestore(omode=4, mode=-4)
Dup

Crop(8, 8, -8, -2)
GradFunkMirror(1.51)
#Output clean, mostly deblended 60p

I'm confused by Dup part... is it supposed to be Dup(), or are you doing two passes?

I was under the impression that Dup() simply made highly similar frames actually identical for compression's sake.

I actually had a nasty crash towards the end of this encode, but didn't bother troubleshooting it, and just decided to keep the damn DVD :(
