can anyone elaborate a bit on the differences between the two versions of the encoder? i couldnt find a source that does.
does sp2 encode better, quality wise?
and does dvd-rb work with cce sp2?
thanks

I do remember a post in this forum at the time when the first version of CCE SP2 came out. The poster did compare the output of the brand new SP2 to the output of the latest CCE SP 2.70, and the output streams were bit identical.
Of course the current SP2 version contains many improvements, but I believe that the basic endoding engine has not changed. Have a look at the version history here: http://www.cinemacraft.com/file/sp2/txt/1.00.01.09/history_e.txt
The pro version of DVD-RB does support SP2, the free version does not.

thanks
i'm wondering whats the general consensus among cce users - which version is mostly used, sp or sp2, and why.

Wasn't is something like SP2 being multi-processor aware?

multi processor or multi core?
im pretty sure cce sp v2.7 utilizes multi cores.

If I remember correctly, the software was just redesigned so that it is more modular and accessible from a programming/interfacing point of view (or something to that effect) but the engine remained pretty much the same.

That's what I thought as well. Some people claimed a speed improvement (on certain CPU's) but if this is the case, I haven't noticed.
On my C2D SP2 didn't seem any faster than my Basic 2.70 version (which @ $58 vs $2k was a steal).

Unfortunately Cinema Craft seems to have discontinued CCE Basic at the end of July.

If anyone wants to buy Basic, it looks like it's still on sale in Japan (for now):http://www.novac.co.jp/products/software/cce/ccebasic/specific.html

I've been using Procoder for a while and it seems to do just as good a job, if not slightly better, than CCE.
Anyone else have any experience with both of them and prefer one over the other? I know Procoder uses multi-cores (at least 2, since I only have a dual core) to run multiple encoding processes.... can't remember how CCE did on my computer.

I can say that at one point I'd checked them out and I liked Procoder better for interlaced material, and CCE for progressive. They're both very good encoders. Interestingly I think HC Encoder is on equal ground with them, and it's freeware.
I haven't tested in a while but CCE was quite a bit faster than Procoder as well.
