View Full Version : Some of our moderators are missing!

Out of a total of 42 moderators only 31 have been active this year!

Is there any particular reason why these guys don't feel like moderating any more?

Just like normal users, some people drift away to focus on other aspects of life. The moderator status is removed only on request of the mod, as far as I can tell.

Actually, you get a 3 month hiatus and then you're supposed to be back. I just haven't been so active checking but as far as I can tell, most people on this list got an email from me earlier this yeark asking about their status.. and I only got one response if memory serves me right.

Sufficed to say, I doubt the response was from TheWEF, mrbass, auenf or Neo Neko then?

I've gone through the list.. Karl and thewef still visit the board.. they've just been gone for a month.. but it's the summer holiday season so people tend to not be around so much.

As for the rest, I've pinged them about their status. Since it's still summer I will give them some time to respond. And I actually was mistaken about sending mails earlier this year.. last time I sent such mails was back in October and it were different people (there are a few who've been inactive even back then so they did get a second mail now).

Just for a comparison, Videohelp :) is running fine with only 2 SuperModerators, 0 moderators and 1 Administrator. And of course, they login to the site at least one time per day, every day. ;)

Regarding this forum, no moderator and no admin should be allowed to use the "invisible" mode. ;)

Update:

it seems Donald Graft is not a forum member anymore,

http://forum.doom9.org/member.php?u=4113

however the name "Guest" still is listed as a moderator

He decided to retire, and that's the way he requested it. His website is also closed.

His website appeared opened for business when I visited it earlier today, although it appears not to be neuron2.net any longer.

I must admit, it all seems a little odd..... why change his user name here? It's as though Donald Graft has a sudden desire to pretend he's not neuron2. Semi-retirement maybe?

I've decided to unmod a few moderators that have not visited us for over a year:

Teegedeck
D3s7
mrbass
blutach
bond
atreides93
Zeul
jel

I'd like to thank them all for their years of service.

And as for neuron2, foxyshadis already mentioned what is to be said. I'd also like to thank him for his many years of service to this community (he's was of the longest running moderators) and the video processing world with all the tools he developed.

The way he chose to retire may puzzle some people but he wanted to fade away quickly and I think we should respect those wishes. There's absolutely no reason for speculation or go digging around. And I can tell you quite definitely that the person behind the neuron2 nickname (the nick no longer exists on this board and you have no way of contacting him via this board either) will not rejoin the moderator team at some future point in time. All his posts are still here, and now appear made by "Guest" which is on purpose (and no, there's no neuron2 hiding behind that).

Thanks for keeping us all in the loop...

Donald. You've provided us with some really usefull applications over the years. You will be missed...

I don't quite understand how changing the neuron2 nickname helped Donald Graft fade away any faster, but don't you think it looks somewhat odd to visit a forum where a guest account named Guest has been closing threads and directing others how to post etc? Maybe if the nickname had been changed to something else..... "inactive_mod" or something similar?

Mind you I do have mixed emotions..... all those times I've read posts and thought "I could probably answer that question", but then considered the likelihood of being neuron2'd for my trouble...... yet hardly a week goes by where I don't at least use DGIndex, so I do appreciate the contribution neuron2 made to the world of video encoding.

Happy retirement neuron2!

I wish Neuron2 godspeed and good health.

His contributions have been remarkable thus far.

So long and thanks for all the fish :)

I'd like to thank Donald for his contributions over the years too, they've definitely played a big role in my encoding adventures.

May you enjoy whatever the future brings you.

DG was as hard and straight-shooting a worker as I've ever encountered on the Internet and I wish him all the best. He will be missed here!

I seem to have forgotten to also retire len0x - many thanks to him, too for all the work.
As for the others.. they're on my inactive list but not yet retired - those who have visited within less than a year will get an inquiry first (last post != last visit). Not all moderation requires posting after all.

Aww, the names on those lists make me so nostalgic. That's too bad, but times do change.
