The program has now been waiting for about 5 minutes and the system is not really doing anything else.

Has anyone seen this problem?

It's been my (rare) experience that, after that much of a wait, this results in a faulty partially burned disc being thrown in the trash.

It must be doing something or the disk queue length wouldn't be as high as it is (look in the status bar). Perhaps you have defrag or indexing running... downloading could even make go that high depending on the speeds you're getting.

I saw the number in the status bar fluctuating between 1 and 12 for about 15 minutes but the burn never resumed.

I finally killed the app (sacrificing my media) and repeated the process successfully.
