Decent xvid settings

hi guys

i know theres no point asking for the best settings for an xvid encode.

Basically im wondering what settings ai should use for just a descent quality 700mb or 1400mb file. All theencodes ive done recently look grainy

Settings aren't as much an issue as bitrate. You can increase the file size or decrease the frame size to improve it with better results than any setup of the codec.

Search for "Resize" on this forum. Basically it's the concept of reducing pixels in image (downsizing) or increasing their count (upsizing, not very useful for your goal).
Originally the DVD source material is in general in the following resolutions 720x576 (PAL editions) or 720x480 (NTSC editions).
When you want to encode the video you have to sacrifice some pixels in order to obtain lower resolution which will in turn require lesser bitrate to please your eyes with fluid motion.

The 45% High Quality preset (refer to the sticky thread) is a good starting point. If you are using a VAQ build, you can enable VAQ too for better quality. Of course, a good source is a big plus. Try yadif+nnedi together with MDegrain2 or MDegrain3. FYI, I tried TempGaussMC() recently and now I can't live without it.
