After months of changing every setting imaginable and trying many many suggestions members here have offered, I finally found the problem. My errors never were in the encoding at all. My problem was the external drive I transferred my completed encodes to in order to view them on my nmt. I never expected to be getting artifacts from transferring files to what appeared to be a functional ext hdd. Thanks to everyone who has offered their time and help

Can you please explain this to me? How could this conclusion be possible?

It was corrupting parts of the file either when they were transferred, or reading data improperly (and thus sending back corrupt data), which caused artifacts.
