I know this isn't really Avisynth-related, but I want to post a video sample here so someone could recommend some nice settings for a denoiser and I don't want to re-encode to get the sample. I've tried Avidemux but it crashes upon loading an avi.

What version of Avidemux did you use? What does the log say? What are the audio/video formats stored in your AVI file?
Anway, other tools for demuxing AVI files include AVI-Mux GUI and MP4Box...

To cut an avi sample you can use VirtualDub in Video 'Direct stream copy' mode (the Audio 'Direct stream copy' is by default)
The first frame must be a keyframe.
You can use Audio -> No audio, to obtain an avi with only video
To extract audio tracks use VirtualDubMod (can manage more than one audio tracks) with Streams -> Stream list -> Demux
