World War 1 In Color - Anyone done it?

Hey folks,

I picked up a really cool DVD set the other day - it's the "World War 1 in Color" series, which is an extensive documentary about World War 1, with tons of footage re-colorized.

It's all encoded as NTSC 60i, and is VERY hybrid.

There are pure 60i sections, 24p sections with a standard 3:2 pattern, and other patterns I'm not familiar with.

Some of the original film material was definitely not 24p, so there's a lot of duplicate frames etc...

I'm going attempt a VFR MKV backup, using x264 and whatever method I can get in AviSynth to get all the footage progressive!

Has anyone done this disc before?

If so, suggestions are MORE than welcome!!

No, but if you want help, post a video sample. (And since the source seems to be extremely undecided about what it should be, a long sample would be good.)

I think I'm just going to keep it in its original MPEG-2 form...

The effort involved and likely quality loss doesn't seem worth it :)
