Ok First time here so not sure whether this is even in the right spot. My son video tapes at the local race track, been doing it now for several weeks but when he taped the race two weeks ago the video came out pixelated (like when a satellite dish loses signal) halfway through. The problem is that he forgot to download the clips to the hard drive and now all we can use to fix it is the dvd that is already burned. I have tried several programs to try to fix this. Power director 8 was used for the edit but now will not open the saved project because the clips are not on the harddrive and the memory card was overwritten with the next race. I have tried video enhancer which after 30 plus hours of trying it did nothing. Also tried dvd rebuilder but everytime I start that program it comes up with some kind of error. Is is possible to re encode the disc itself to make it better. Been using the same discs (memorex lightscribe) with no problems with the earlier dvd's. I believe this is a problem when it encodes and possibly only recently stared because I was using Express burn trial version and it was getting to the point of expiration. I say this because I used it again for this week and it did the same thing but when I put the files into Nero and burned from there everything is fine. Can this other disc be repaired somehow?

The original published copy is on the hard drive but it also
plays the same way, when power director publish it something went wrong.

I'm sorry, but perhaps another member can better understand your needs and circumstance...

Unfortunately, I think you're out of luck. If your source video (the one originally recorded) is bad, then there's not much you can do. You could clean up the source slightly with a blur filter, but you won't get a clearer picture, just a softer one. Even if you use your DVD as source, your options are about the same.

Can you post a small (10+ megs), uncompressed piece of your video that we can look at?
BTW - MediaFire.com is good for hosting items like this.

Is is possible to re encode the disc itself to make it better.
If it breaks up as you described, either you have a bad burn or the original video was corrupt. As suggested, copy the files back to your hard drive, perhaps even using ISOPuzzler, and see if the video plays correctly from there. If it does, burn it again with a slower speed than before.

If your son taped an event it it came pixelated, then it might be that the problem is not on the DVD but is on the camcorder. Pixelation is a common problem by dirty heads in a MiniDV camcorder. If shot in LP, then the missalignements are the second source of pixelations.
If this is true then clean the heads or never use LP. Although the problem of lubricants was supposed to be solved, I still suggest using one tape brand only.

A sample would be relevant (one image only) to see if it's the DV or the DVD.

If you can't use windows copy/paste then the DVD is the problem (not a big surprise with Memorex). Use then Iso buster or iso puzzle to recover it. Or any recovery software you may have. In case of damaged media, pixelation is the symptom that not enough video data reach the video decoder, for various reasons.
