Codecs needed to be able to play all files

Just wondering if there is a list of all the filters and codecs with which all files can be played in players that don't come with their own codecs.

Assuming you're not hardware-bound where you would need DXVA decoding, that should just about do it. Maybe there are some outside cases where Quicktime Alternative / Real Alternative are necessary.

Edit: This assumes that you've got MPEG-2 demultiplexers, DVD navigators, etc. ready to go, as you would on a newer system running at least Vista Home Premium or Windows XP + DVD package.
