View Full Version : Shrinking an audio track

I have a DVD that I am wanting to add an audio track to. The track on the DVD and the one I want to add seem identical, but one runs longer than the other, presumably because it was taken from a different source (i.e. one is PAL and one is NTSC). The DVD audio track runs 81:30 whilst the VHS-sourced track runs 83:15.

Is there a simple way to 'shrink' the longer track, so that it is approximately the same length as the one on the DVD. It doesn't have to be exact, as I can use Sony Vegas to tweak it afterward.

Many thanks for any help/advice - I'm a lot more used to working with subtitles than audio tracks...

If is a exact NTSC to PAL conversion you can try:

eac3to vhs_ntsc.wav dvd_pal.wav -speedup

I'm not 100% sure that it's an exact NTSC to PAL conversion, but I can't see why else the runtimes differ. What program would I use to apply the command you suggested?

The longer one is from an English language VHS rip of the film. I want to add it to a DVD which only contains an Italian audio track. I do this quite often using Vegas, but usually the two tracks roughly match up, with a few adjustments here and there. In this case, the English audio gradually goes out of sync as the film progresses and I can't see anything obvious that would account for the missing 2 minutes.
