I was just doing some basic tests with HDconvertToX and MeGUI, when I noticed that there was a significant speed difference in the two of them. Further investigation revealed that HDConvertToX was using a 1162 with something called Kavaq patch I believe.
I was testing MeGUI with a vanilla x264 1173 from x264.nl.
Both the speeds and file sizes were different for the same exact encoding settings. Looking at the changelog, all I can see are optimizations as the main differences between the two.
For reference (rough numbers, but you get the idea), 1162 was chugging along at around 7.75fps, while 1173 was chugging along at around 6.12 and sometimes lower. File sizes were about 5.9 MB and 9.0 MB respectively.
I am just curious as to what the big difference is between the two.
