MeGUI - Cant preview file, cant encode to AVI

Hi,

Im trying to encode a MKV file to AVI. When I open it using AVS Script Creator, it takes about 3-4 minutes, and eventually comes up with a blank gray screen in the preview window. I set it to resize, save it, open bitrate calculator, set the file size, save it, and enqueue it. When it starts, the "Processing..." window appears, and nothings happening. No progress, CPU is 0%. No read or write IO is happening. I am running Windows 7 RC x64 on an i7 920 with 6Gb RAM. The MKV has AVC video and AC3 audio.

Now the interesting thing is I loaded MeGUI on another PC, running Vista x64, and the preview popped up in 5 seconds, and was showing the correct picture.

So Im seeing two possibilities:
(1) Issue due to Windows 7 (I have set MeGUI as XP compatible and "Run as Admin")
(2) Some sort of codec issue.

Any ideas on where to proceed from here?

1 - you dont need to set megui as XP compatible. it's a .NET application...
2 - this is probaly the culprit of your problems.

Thanks for the response.

(1) I did this as a longshot, and it didnt change anything.
(2) Any ideas on how I go about fixing this? I currently have K-Lite x64 installed, but uninstalling it would mean I probably wont be able to play the MKV file anymore. Is there a way you know off to play different media without using a codec pack?

lets start from the fact you cant mix 32bits and 64bits applications. that's also valid for megui and codecs.
you need 32bits decoders, splitters and everything else...

Alright, so I'll uninstall the x64 media stuff tonight. (I'm pretty sure I'd put in a 64-bit xvid build at some point as well).

oh, you dont need to uninstall 64bit stuff. you just need to install 32bits decoders, splitters, filters, etc...

ok, I installed K-Lite 32-bit. No difference. I uninstalled the K-Lite 64-bit. Still no diff. I then uninstalled everything, and installed just the K-Lite 32-bit. Still nothing. So Im at a loss on where to go from here. Any further ideas?

Not sure if it makes any diff, but the video plays without any problems in Media Player Classic.

did you install haali media splitter?
i hate codec packs for a reason...

Ok, so the plan is to uninstall everything (KLite 32bit, ffdshow 64bit, etc). Then install just Haali Media Splitter, and see how that goes.

I've also got GraphEdit, so once I have only Haali installed, I should be able to use that to tell me if there's anything else doing the splitting.

I've seen the output from GraphEdit. It shows the file being split into video and audio, and then each part is rendered(decoded?). Will Haali Media Splitter do only the MKV splitting? Or does it render the video as well?

install ffdshow (latest tryouts) and haali media splitter and vobsub/vsfilter
windows comes with some renderers (overlay, VMR, EVR) and haali has it's own (haali renderer).
however, renderer is not used while encoding.
