If you don't want to read the whole thing the question is at the bottom...

I have a 698 MB .avi file that I need to put on a DVD-R, so I followed the steps in the AVI to DVD guide (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm).
1.)I ripped the audio and converted it to .ac3 using VirtualDub and Besweet
2.)I used QuEnc to covnert the .avi file into a mpeg2 file, i used all of the setting found in the guide here (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/avi2dvdr.htm)
the resulting mpeg2 file was 4.88 GB, which wont fit on my DVD-R.
Normally, if the file would have fit the DVD-r, I would use DVDFlick to author the DVD: there is an option to have it copy the MPEG2 stream, and I set it to remove the audio that is in the MPEG2 file (QuEnc enclodes audio into the file, i think...) and replace it with the .ac3 audio.
Since the file is too big, I didn't set DVDFlick to copy the MPEG2 stream and just replaced the audio. So DVDFlick encodes the MPEG2 file to fit the dvd-r, which takes a long time.
______________
My question is:
Is it possible to reduce the size of the MPEG2 file that comes out of QuEnc by changing the bitrate or any other settings? I used a 9608 kbps bitrate.
