Can't burn DVDs/CDs?

I was burning DVD's & CD's through Nero 8 a few weeks ago, but now I tried to burn a dvd, it doesn't burn at all. The process starts but there is no sound like it usually makes when burn process begins. I checked device manager, there is nothing disabled. I am using gateway m320 notebook. Win XP. The dvd rom reads any disc perfectly but it has stopped burning, what is going on, what happened? Any drivers I should update & how ? Any help appreciated.

Would you please post here the most recent NERO log regarding this "no burn" occurrence?

Are you sure you haven't inadvertently set NERO to a "test" mode?

I guess you haven't checked the Device Manager carefully enough, as this log indicates that your burner has DMA "OFF". In order to turn DMA back on:

In the Device Manager (via the Control Panel>>System>>Hardware>>Device Manager), you simply have to remove the applicable IDE channel (Click on "IDE...Controllers") and let your computer reset it to DMA as follows:
Right click on the pertinent channel in Device Manager
Click on uninstall
Reboot
After rebooting go back to Device Manager and change the setting to "DMA if available"...

Additionally, have you tried burning from files, rather than from an .ISO image file?

It works, issue resolved, it was a DMA problem, I simply un-installed the 2nd IDE & rebooted & than tried to un-install the 1st IDE, but couldn't somehow do it, but anyway tried running Nero & the DVD started to burn after the reboot.
