is there any programmes that will let me encode ac3 6 channel audio to a high bitrate like 1500kbs

i have had a look around and i can not seem to find anything that goes over 640kbs for ac3

please help if you can :thanks:

The max bitrate for standard ac3 encoders is 640 Kb/s (equivalent quality to DTS 1500Kb/s).
For high bitrates you need eac3 encoders/decoders (commercials), or go to lossless encoders like Flac

ok...asxgui lets me encode with ac3 audio at 1500kbps but the whole process with that software takes to long so i could do with
a ac3 encoder that supports upto 1500kbps

is there any that do that!

:thanks:

What's the point of a 5.1 AC3 stream @ 1536kbps?

Nope, is not possible.

Don't exist.

Is it possible you are confusing ac3 with dts? Bluray DTS audio is usually 1536kbps.

If you let us know your source audio we could probably better advice on choice of codec / bitrate.

as asxgui lets you select 1500kbs for ac3 i was just woundering if it was just actualy possible and why if not has he added the feature to his encoder!!!!!

Apologies for my ignorance, but is there any hardware/software capable of decoding 1536kbps AC3 ???

There is no such thing as 1536kbps AC3.

Any decent bluray player should accept it, in accordance with bluray format standards (Dolby Digital Plus, or E-AC-3). However, DD+ is only optional there, not mandatory as it was for HD-DVD.

Bluray supports ac3 up to 640 kbps, so bluray players definitly can't play 1536 kbps ac3. e-ac3 (up to 1.7 Mbps) is optonal but the tracks have to have an ac3 core (640 kbps).

One more time.

ac3 (DD) can have bitrates between 32Kb/s and 640Kb/s
eac3 (DD+) can have bitrates until 3Mb/s

Don't exist free eac3 encoders and, of course, asxgui can't encode to eac3.
Exist a free eac3 decoder (libav). Of course exist also commercials decoders.

The OP might want to write and compile a "freeformat build" of Aften ---
--- and a non-standard AC3 decoder as well. :)

Well, I suppose I have found out what the OP was looking for: :)

1) Create a regular AC3 file @ 48kHz ;

2) Convert it to a SPDIF-padded .WAV file. :D

HTH!

The max bitrate for standard ac3 encoders is 640 Kb/s (equivalent quality to DTS 1500Kb/s).Are there double blind tests substantiating this claim? Just wondering 'cause I like reading this sort of stuff. :)

The only comparison I know is this one: http://www.ebu.ch/CMSimages/en/tec_doc_t3324-2007_tcm6-53801.pdf

Really interesting read, thank you so much. And surprisingly good performance by good old DD.
Guess James at Slysoft was right in stating that DD at 640 was plenty enough and there was no need for a DTS on the fly encoder.

Pink Floyd - Pulse dvd came with DD in 448 and 640 and they was right too.
