My DVD has 2 channel AC3 and StaxRip offers me three different AAC settings, where I usually select 5.1 200-250 kbps.

Is this selection adequate for a stereo source? Why does my 5.1 selection produce a 60 MB mp4 file, while the non-5.1 selection results in a 120 MB file?

I do not get it. Can anyone explain?

Use your own judgement... No it isn't cause you up mixing a stereo to 5.1

Your spreading the 200~250kbps over 6 channels rather then the 2.

Thanks for the answer.

As for the file size, I still don't know why the stereo AAC file is almost 100 % bigger than the 5.1 AAC file. Shouldn't this be inverted?

My intention for trying out the non-5.1 AAC option of StaxRip was to achieve a smaller file size for the stereo track. The result was quite surprising for me...
