View Full Version : oneclick profile - anamorphic

I am trying to create a oneclick profile that will work for most of my movies. I was under the impression that if you selected original aspect and not to resize that it would detect the aspect ratio and convert accordingly, however that appears to not be the case with anamorphic movies. Is there a way to detect this or am I going to have to dig out the cases for all of my movies to check for anamorphic video?

I know this is covered here, but I apparently am not understanding something.

DVDs are not mastered with a 1:1 PAR. Whatever you ultimately need to do for the case of anamorphism needs to be done for every disc, not just widescreen ones.

@neuron2: i guess "it" means MeGUI...

By it I did mean megui, or avisynth, whichever would detect AR. So, is it correct to say that megui detects the video aspect ratio but not PAR?

If this is the case how do I know the video is anamorphic?

Do I need a seperate profile for anamorphic movies?

Sorry for being unclear, for some reason I wrote as if I was posting in a MeGui forum.

maybe you should firts understand what anamorphic encoding is and works.

What you require is possible to do.... Take a look at Buzzqw's HDConvertToX (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=145577).

That said. If you want to generate "image only" anamorphic encodes (by cropping away any black mattes/bars). You might find it difficult to match your encodes movie aspect ratio to that of your sources. Due to mod-16 constraints.

Okay, maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here. So, let me expand on my intentions. I am trying to set my one-click profile in MeGui to use the source aspect ratio without cropping or resizing. I have Signal AR selected and in the dropdown original aspect ratio is selected.

Now, with these settings, when encoding Billy Liar which is an anamorphic 16:9 film the image appears stretched. Is this because the film is anamorphic or is there another issue I may not be seeing?

If it is the anamorphic video causing the problem would manually selecting 16:9 solve the problem? It seems that it would, but if so what is it that clever anamorphic actually does?

I'm sorry I don't understand this terribly well, but none of the guides I've found for megui really clarify what clever anamorphic does or when it should be used.

These sorts of questions are more easily answered after having a short sample of your source....

it's because you didnt crop the black bars.

it's because you didnt crop the black bars.

:thanks:

Worked like a charm, I appreciate your help. I set the one-click to undercrop to mod16 and it worked perfectly. I haven't tried it with any 4:3 content, but I'm confident it will work.

it should work as well.
