how to properly use VirtualDub to capture from a VHS?

Hi to everyone!
First off I have to apologize if my question has been already asked many time before but I find so many guides around here that I really don't know which is the most detailed.

What I need to do is to properly set up VirtualDub to capture from my VHS recorder device and then convert it to an mpg suited to be authored to create DVD/SVCD...I fancy to use DVD2SVCD for that
