View Full Version : Visualizing reference frame dependencies (and H.264 in general)

I'm trying to finish off my H.264 chapter this weekend.

I'm trying to come up with a compressionist-friendly explanation of multiref and its impacts on both compression efficiency and decode complexity.

Anyone have an good recommendations for how I can visualize those interframe dependencies, or at least get a log with that kind of data that I can start whacking away in Excel with?

More broadly, what are folks using for H.264 visualization. I've seen references to a ffmpeg build that includes some visualizations, but as a recovering programmer, I generally glaze over at "compile" and "gcc".

Any tips?

Just sheer incompetance looking at too many forums at once...
