View Full Version : A basic BD9/BD5 question

Short question:
Is a BD9/BD5 automatically always in AVCHD format? Or is a BD9/BD5 really a *true* Blu-ray disc, just burned to a DVD?
I'm asking because if it is in AVCHD format, there would be no DTS, no second audiotrack and no subtitles possible on a BD9/BD5, right?
Thanks for your help.

AVCHD is a "light BD".
In my personal view, a BD5/9 is a DVDR containing a BD structure (BDMV). Some people here extend the BD5/9 to include AVCHD, since it has more support in hardware (and free h.264 codecs and encoders are available, unlike VC-1). Multi-audio, subtitles and secondary A/V streams are of little importance for most people, especially those coming from countries that "double" the audio (IT, DE/AT, ES, FR) or VoA (RU).

Mmm, I see. Thanks for that info.

OK, so it IS possible to stictly follow the BD-format and include DTS and subtitles on a BD9. The only downside would be that hardware player support for that BD9 would be worse, if I understand correctly.
Does anybody know by chance if the Samsung 1600 BD-Player would play such "true" BD9 discs?
And what kind of output would BD Rebuilder or tsRemuxeR give me? A true "BD-format BD9" or a BD/AVCHD-hybrid BD9? I'm asking because subtitles and DTS audio are very important to me..

1)You have combined the names of two different programs - "tsMuxeR" and "TSRemux"
2) Both "BD Rebuilder" and "tsMuxeR" offer the option of selecting either standard BluRay format or AVCHD format...

Oops, sorry. I meant tsMuxeR.
And in BD Rebuilder I don't find that option for real BD compliance. Maybe it's done in the ini-file..
And thanks for both your posts.

And in BD Rebuilder I don't find that option for real BD compliance"Real BD compliance" is the default setting for this program. You have the option of selecting "Strict AVCHD compliance" as an alternative...
