Mo-comped EEDI2?

From my experience EEDI2 is the all-around best deinterlacer in terms of speed vs quality, although of course it ruins small non-combed parts of an image, such as static logos and writing.

Is there any way to utilize EEDI2 on only combed parts of a frame?

Try using it in combination with Yadifmod.

Yadifmod does not check for combed parts of a frame....
It's simply a yadif that gets its spatial predictions from another clip... (in your suggestion, the source clip EEDI2'd)
The end result looks more Yadif than EEDI2.

You can use EEDI2 with TDeint as such:


interp = separatefields().selecteven().eedi2()
tdeint(edeint=interp)


Or, for double-rate:

interp = separatefields().eedi2(field=-2)
tdeint(mode=1,edeint=interp)


Another, slower, option would be to use the original MCBob script (v3.0c, I think) which uses EEDI2 with motion compensation.

Thanks! My new favorite deinterlacer for anything interlaced containing anything other than full 60i motion is:

MT("TDeint(edeint=separatefields().selecteven().EEDI2())",0,splitvertical=true)

with my favorite for full 60i motion being:

MT("separatefields().selecteven().EEDI2()",0,splitvertical=true)

(the odd/even thing depends on the source)
