DVD to MPEG2 file

Hi. I would like to rip my DVD collection so to have the videos in my NAS and watch them throught my network media player.
Instead of ripping the DVDs to Divx, Xvid or another codec and AVI container, can I rip the DVDs to MPEG2 files and watch the videos without loosing anything?? (without compression other than the original DVD MPEG2).

The problem is that my network media player dosen't support iso. So I have to rip to a playable format. Because of that, I think about ripping to MPEG2 files if there`s a way to do it without loosing any quality.

Does the player support MKV?

You could demux the video and audio streams with DGIndex and then mux to MKV.

what DOES your player support...what is it?

My Player does support MPEG 1, 2, AVI, MKV (x264), nearly any video format but not ISOs. Wich of thoose formats is better in terms of video quality? I think MPEG2 because is the same codec as original DVD so I have not to recode or recompress anything. Am I wrong?

Just demux the audio and video and remux it to an MPEG file (program stream).

Does it play VOB files? If so, would it not be easier tp just rip the main title off the DVD as a single large VOB, so you wouldn't need to do any demuxing or remuxing?

Unfortunately, it doesn´t support vob files.

Yes. Absolutely no loss in quality, but you will lose chapters.

It isn`t a DVD player but a Network Media Payer.

It does not matter, it should support it. Have you tried?

I've tested myself a few HDDs with built-in mediaplayers, all of them could easily do the job.
