I am having some issues with DeShaker. Basically this is a walk-and-talk shot, where both the camera and characters are moving. This is footage shot in 24p from a Canon HF100, 1920x1080 res. I have put the zoom and edge compensation to zero, which seems to greatly reduce the wobble problem.
Currently, I have two major issues -
1) The borders are wild - and these need me to cut out nearly 200 pixels from the top at one moment. Is there any way to limit how many pixels DeShaker can cut out? Say I have a 1920x1080 video. I can afford at most 70 pixels from the top and bottom and 30 from the sides and within these limits it can rotate or pan as much. I can compromise with a less effective stabilization. I have tried the limits options in the pass 2, but doesn't seem to affect at all. What should I change here?
2) There are strange ghosting/motion trailing artifacts in the background. This is a progressive video from a Canon HF100. I have tried the rolling shutter option to no avail. You know how when you pause a progressive video there are trails and blurs? The same thing is visible in motion now. I will try to post an example.

I am attaching two videos - one to illustrate the excess crop, the other the ghosting. Concentrate on the large windows at the back, above the gate G, you will clearly notice what I am talking about.
I might try DePan+Stabilize on this video, although in my experience so far, in cases such as this (where the camera is moving), DeShaker traditionally works much better.

the 'ghosting' is more like motion blur. This is derived from the slow shutter speed of the camera.
There is nothing you can do against it, except you are willing to go frame by frame through the video and replace all blurred frames with morphed intermediate frames from non-blurred neighboring frames.
I did this half a year ago for a 20 seconds clip and needed about five hours to get this right.
The execssive cropping is normal if you want to stabilise motion.
There are several ways to prevent or conceal it:
- prevent: limit stabiliation to a lower max correction limit
- conceal: make usage of prev & future frames, but keep track of the audio sync when using fututre frames.
- use dynamic or static zoom to zoom into the image until the cropped areas are outside the visible frame.
And btw.: you didn't follow my suggestion: I asked for an UNPROCESSED Sample video.
So you must NOT alter the video of the camera in ANY form.
Just provide a SOURCE video sample so you can try the stabilisation ourselfs on order to be able to suggest you good parameters to start with.

Thanks for the help. This is different from motion blur or motion trailing, it is much more apparent, even distracting. It is not present in the original footage, which I am attaching below. Running a Deshaker pass it comes into view. It is like it is magnifying the blur. This hasn't happened to this degree from any of my earlier footage, even those shot at 1/24. I will try setting my max correction limit to 5 and 10. Let me see if it makes a difference.

and yerks horribly.
so you've done something wrong.
most probably you converted 30p footage to 24p.
I asked for an UNPROCESSED Sample!

It's kind of difficult to upload an unprocessed sample, but I will give it a try. It is shot in 24p, by the way, but of course the MTS container is 60i.
Also, Entering low values in the max correction limit, something I had tried before, has absolutely no effect on the cropping AT ALL. This is the last option in pass 2, right? I entered values of 5 each.
I am trying to upload a completely unprocessed AVCHD sample. Of course, 24p AVCHD is just like that, so maybe if you are used to 60i, it will look "horribly blended". Still, there's no ghosting as witnessed in the Deshaker samples.

Sorry, I have been unable to upload the uncompressed MTS file, as it's very large, and my connection is a shared one, so it keeps freezing. I would just like to know how to limit the cropping. The "max correction limit" doesn't seem to be working if possible, thanks.

I have figured out both issues, thought I would share. For the ghosting - simply uncheck the box in Pass 1 which says "Ignore pixels darker than...". Since the windows are black, Deshaker was ignoring those pixels as non-moving, so in the next frames, the black windows were there, whereas everything around was compensated for motion - thus leading to the ghosting effect.
The Motion Smoothness values are the ones that seem to relate to the cropping, strangely, not the Max Correction Limit - I put them to 200 and now they are within acceptable limits.
If any of you have any more suggestions to stabilize a clip like this, do let me know, thanks!
