Does x264, or perhaps BD-RB, have a problem in correctly processing Black & White video?

Not that I know of. Why do you ask?

Why do you ask?Because, although I have no problem making an uncompressed backup of a (95%+) B&W concert disc ("U2 - Rattle &Hum", converted to BluRay from my original HD-DVD - as I've done successfully with a dozen or so other of my purchased, original HD-DVDs), after running it through either "BD-Rebuilder" or "AVCHDCoder" for compression, the result is a gray screen with audio - and a very small filesize...

Have you tried x264 CLI directly?

If you'd like to post a source sample, I'm sure throngs of people will test it for you.

For what its worth... I had no trouble with Good Night and Good Luck, which was filmed in Black & White. I used a Blu-Ray as the original source.

@GaPony

Thank you for the insight ;>}

Could the fact that the 1080p video (of both the original HD-DVD disc and the uncompressed rip/conversion to BluRay) is already in MPEG4-AVC format prevent both BD-RB and AVCHDCoder from properly compressing the video?

I highly doubt it, do you know what decoder(s) they use?

EDIT:
I just found this (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=881827#post881827) which (although several years old) suggests that the problem may be caused by interlacing.

Hi!...suggests that the problem may be caused by interlacing.This does not seem to be applicable. As I mentioned in my previous post, this is a 1080p movie (According to both "tsMuxeR" and the packaging)...

How is playback of the original BD with the same directshow decoder BD-RB is using?

I saw that, but I'm (just a guess) thinking somewhere it is being interlaced, or (more likely) flagged as interlaced. Could you post a sample as neuron2 suggested? Maybe someone else who uses BD-RB could find where the problem is.

@linyx

Just to let you know that "neuron2" has examined a clip and stated that using one of his tools, he compressed it and the resultant video was fine...
