@visco
Are you able to use this new drive with other programs?
Are you able to use it to play video discs or music discs?
Does Windows recognize the drive?
Does the drive actually play any of your DVDs? Perhaps it's missing it's region code setting?

i called LG , they said on alot of the new dvd burners that are coming out, they are putting keys on them so they can't copy or rip movies.. he did tell me there are programs to override this, but wouldn't tell me where.

Good god, what kind of vegetable is manning LG's support desk?
ALL DVD drives fresh from the factory contain a region code that usually is set the first time you play a region-coded DVD.
Please tell us which DVD region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region#Region_codes_and_countries) you're in and what region the DVDs you want to rip are from. If those two don't match you either need a region-free firmware for your DVD burner or something like AnyDVD to work around the region code mismatch.
