Help needed : modify background image of a menu

Hello,
i use DVDSubEdit when i need to add some buttons or simply modify their position in a dvd menu.
This time i have a problem that i'm not able to solve.

This is the original cell of the subtitle menu:

I want to replace it with this modified picture:

As you can see, i changed the position of two buttons so now i need to change also the subpic bmp

The problem is that when i re-import the modified subpic bmp in DVDSubEdit all the highlights are gone (I mean that when i go over the button with the mouse i can't see the highlight).

I tried with the guide by goonix in sticky, but i have the same problem

I'm using latest version of DVDSubEdit on Windows Vista 64, but tried also with WinXp SP3

There are too many buttons for a single menu. This is the reason why your menu is splitted into 3 parts (3 PGCs). If you go down from the second line of subtitle languages, you enter the next part of the menu automatically. The same appears going down from the fourth line.

But if you reduce this to only 2 (3 including main menu) selections, you need only 1 part of course.

Additional to the changed subpicture, you have to modify the hotspot rectangles of the buttons. With the menu editor of PgcEdit you can delete all unnecessary hotspots (buttons) and correct the positions of the 3 remaining buttons.

Please keep in mind that you have a 16:9 menu. Thats why you need 2 sets of subpictures (widescreen and pan&scan) and 2 sets of hotspots.

There is nothing else special in your menu.

Hi goonix,

many thanks for your fast reply.
I already knew all the things you said (too many buttons, hotspots, widescreen menu) but i was not able to have the highlights work after the modifications.
I solved the problem a few hours after i posted here, following your guide: the only thing i did different than usual is saving the subpic pictures in OS2 format (DVDSubEdit permits to use 24 bit bitmaps also).
Anyway i still can't understand why i'm not able to have the same result with DVDSubEdit because i used it many times without problems: i need to make some tests again.

In terms of DVDSE, just use MSPaint and the save temporary BMP. You don't need to export and import. Just edit the BMP in place (File --> Edit subpic BMP with external tool).

i already tried to edit the picture directly with MSPaint but it doesn't work
however is quite impossible to use only MSPaint for this kind of work, you see i need to align the highlights to the background picture : for this reason i use photoshop and take advantage of the opacity features
anyway i repeat again, i already made some works of this kind, but i have this problem only with this dvd... i don't know why:confused:

Remember to do 0x20 and 0x21. You are probably viewing the wrong subpic.

I find that you can move the subpics around till it comes into view and then make little adjustments till it's just right. Takes about 1 minute per subpic.
