Film / Camera flag

Can someone explain this please? And why does it only apply to PAL DVDs?

And if I demux a "Film title" and remux, it comes out "Camera", but there is no discernable difference.

Has it got anything to do with Progressive vs Interlaced content?

Probably that is the reason (or intention if not actually used in devices). In case of PAL there is a chance to get progressive content after decoding mpegs, then conversion to letterbox (if necessary) could be performed by the player using a more suitable method than the one used for interlaced content. In case of NTSC even film footage stored as 23.976 is output as interlaced (since it's the decoder that follows pulldown flags). However I'd also prefer to get a confirmation to this from DVD experts.
