Hi

I'm not quite sure whether this is the right forum to ask this question - but is is related to HDTV and DVB...

I have a bunch of .ts files in HD format (1920x1080i) with AC3 sound - and subtitling in these files are located as teletext pages.

How do I get this converted to AVCHD format, so I can put it on a DVD ? Using tsMuxer and BD Rebuilder I'm able to squeeze the file to a size, that will fit on a single-layer DVD-R - but the subtitles are not included.

How do I solve this issue ? It is okay with me, if the subtitles always are present on the picture (so that they cannot be disabled)...

Have you tried demuxing the stream with ProjectX - just set the page number of the subtitles and format you want say sub or srt . Under video settings you could change the setting to HDTV rather than the default DVD max (see my PX guide under my sig). Then you would have a separate video, audio and subs track. Next step is for someone else to provide a route to AVCHD format if you really need this but remember if you are making a conventional DVD playable in a standalone player the standard is not HD. As data that's another story.

If you just want to make a regular DVD there are numerous authoring programs to choose. ConvertXto DVD for example will accept a wide range of file types as long as they contain video and audio muxed in one track and it will pick up the accompanying subtitle track if it has the same prefix name.

I know that HD video isn't playable in a standard DVD player...
I'm just trying to get some of the recorded HDTV content on DVD discs in AVCHD format (that way keeping the HDTV resolution), but unfortunately my Panasonic player doesn't support subtitling in AVHCD content...

Okay, it seems like cutting commercials away requires H264TS_Cutter, then I need to extract subtitling with ProjectX (since ProjectX unfortunately doesn't support MPEG4/H.264 content), and audio/video with tsMuxeR. At last I need to find some software, that can combine things again (audio, video and subtitles), and maybe squeeze the data, so it can fit on a single-layer DVD...

Using ProjectX it actually looks as if the subtitles are i DVB format - they are stored at .SUP files from projectX ...

Sorry I missed the crucial MPEG4 format type and yes what a pity ProjectX doesn't handle them. What about TSSniper ? it does cut MPEG4 - I tried it on a file derived from my Beyonwiz a/v input from an old family vhs. Doesn't support subs yet and it is still in beta.

rduck asked deank for support here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=1287308#post1287308).

Aparently you have a problem with no cheap solution in sight:
Panasonic refuses to play BD structures on DVDR (it may change with new firmwares, some models permit BD structure with h.264 on DVDR) and the AVCHD standard does not officially allow subtitles (or angles or multi-audio).

So you either burn BDRs or change the player.

To manage the whole thing you need to:
1. cut the TS stream with a software (maybe TSSplit)
2. extract the subtitles with Project-X
3. demux the audio video with TSmuxer
4. recombine all of them again in tsmuxer
5. put the output as BD (since AVCHD does not allow subtitles)
6. burn the BDMV folder to a DVDR
7. see if it works on your Panny or go around testing the demos in shops.
8. if your Panny does not play it and another one does, buy that one ;)

ProjectX can translate the subtitles from teletext directly in SUP format, as an extra convenience it will output also an IFO file containing the color information from teletext (there are teletext subtitles in several colours, ARD and ZDF use different colours for different characters) ready to import in your new DVD ;)
