No matter what file I try to open or play it crashes it in Vdubmod and Virtualdub. I want to clip parts of video out and I use to be able to just use directstream copy with no problem.. now for no apparent reason I can't use it anymore! Get error when trying to play the file.. 'The source video stream uses a compression algorithm which is not compatible with AVI files. Direct stream copy cannot be used with this video stream.'

VirtualDub doesn't support MKV files and the MKV support in VirtualDubMod is so much outdated that even the Matroska web-site tells you to NOT use VirtualDubMod.

Try to use some less archaic software to edit your MKV files...

Like what? Because MKToolnix doesn't have a GUI where you can actually clip video in the middle by seeing it visually! I need a real cutter not this cryptic guess the location for begin and end.

@molitar

Hi!

1) What are the video and audio formats of the MKV file you created?

2) What is the nature of your original source material, from which you created the MKV?

3) Why didn't you do your editing WHILE you were creating the MKV?

No they are anime episodes.. the songs I like for opening or endings I will clip and put on my phone to listen to at times. Now VirtualDubMod used to work with no problem for clipping them even in mkv format. But now I get the compression error message even when using direct stream copy...

Tracks : 3

Track 2 : Audio

Track 3 : Subtitles

So I want to clip the ending song of the video but I can't seem to get a virtdubmod to even play the file.

That doesn't explain where you got the MKV files from and why you can't cut from the original source. Smells like rule #6 violation :rolleyes:

Hatsukoi Limited - 5v2 [Yuurisan-Subs].mkv

and it's not a licensed anime.. It's unlicensed with torrents on [removed]. So not breaking no rule #6. I explained why. I like the ending song and want to put it on my phone.

But nobody has answered the main question.. why is it crashing now? I use to do this type of cuts for personal use all day long now I can't even load the file into virtualdubmod at all.

It doesn't matter if it is "licensed" or not. Thread closed.
