View Full Version : Memory Loss!

Whenever I create a d2v or demux a bluray or extracting something from winrar, my memory usage start increasing till there are only like 50 MBs left, then my pc starts lagging. I have 4 GB DDR2 by the way. I cant do anything till the d2v/extracting is done to continue using my pc. Plus I have to restart my pc to free up the memory being used although there's nothing in task manager showing that something is using that amount of memory.

Do you think its a problem with my mobo? :confused:

Any help apprecated!

no, it should be a software problem. memory doesnt get "released".
are you running Vista?
if that's the case, trash that POC and install XP. If you cant, and you desperately need vista, then disable Superfetch this way:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\PrefetchParameters]
"EnableSuperfetch"=dword:00000002
"EnablePrefetcher"=dword:00000003
then reboot.

uhm... processing... please wait...
meanwhile, get sysinternal's process explorer and install it.

several svchost.exe peaked out a huge amount of mem (confronting with the working set).
i dont know if vista "uses" to do that, however i see the physucal memory usage up to 82.33% and that should not happen with superfetch "disabled".
consider running some scans with antivirus/antispyware softwares.

Am pretty sure it has something to do with my motherboard, not antivirus/antispyware.

Yea i havent rebooted my system for the RAM to free up :( thats why its still 82 % used up, god knows where it is

didnt you reboot after changing the superfetch value to 2?
also try updating ALL drivers, expecially the motherboard chipset drivers.

I just checked, even copy paste result in the same problem

that's weird. seems memory doesnt get released at all.
it cant be a hardware problem though, it has to be software.

Let me tell u what i've done.

I have a BLURAY ISO. I mount it with PowerISO. Am using the m2ts from there. Do you think that is what's causing the problem? And when i tried to copy the m2ts file, memory loss again

Sharktooth

see if there is a poweriso update or try using a different virtual drive software to mount the BD iso.
btw, what you described is a memory leak in every occasion...

Cool, its working now. Thanks a lot for your time mate!

Btw, some time ago i was using Adobe Audition, and i was facing the same problem. When i was saving(converting) an audio, it ate up all the RAM. Any particular reason for that?

nope. it's hard to find what's causing memory leaks without having access to the affected system
