bframes restriction on HW?

I wonder, what's the bframes restriction on different hardware?
For example, is 3 bframes maximum allowed for Blu-ray and HD DVD?

IIRC, HDDVD allow up to 7 bframes, Blu-Ray only 3.

Out of curiosity, what if you try to play a video with 4 b-frames on a Blu-ray player?

It'd probably work fine, since many of the chipsets are re-used between different devices and so often support features that the Blu-ray standard doesn't strictly require.

If the player detects that your video isn't supported by the decoder chip, you will get an error message or simply a black screen.

Otherwise you will see garbled output, I guess...
