This question has most likely been asked before, but I do not really understand the other topics here about it.

Anyway, I want to load AVC .mp4 files into AviSynth because it is my preferred format for my already-edited-in-Vegas video, and it would be nice to be able to make some quick adjustments in AviSynth to the video rather than going back into Vegas and rendering again.

I am able to play the .mp4s in QuickTime and KMPlayer, but not Windows Media Player.

EDIT: I guess I need some directshow filters for AVC, so I will try those.

well you can load it with DirectShowSource, that's what i do to load a mp4 in vdub

something like:
DirectShowSource("J:\myvideo.mp4",FPS=24.000, ConvertFPS=true)
ConverttoRGB32()

You need ffdshow indeed

I advise you to get the latest divx codec because it's the best h264 decoder at the moment

You can also try demuxing your .mp4 to a raw .264 (use YAMB) and opening with DGAVCDecode. You don't need any additional filter for this.
