DVD ifo and bup generation

I have recently processed some vob files to remove audio crackle, using SOX. I applied this to 4 of the 5 titles on the DVD, as the 5th one did not require any noise reduction.

This involved separating the audio stream, processing it and recombining with the video stream.

The problem is that the resulting vob files are a slightly different size, and the auxiliary files (ifo, bup, video_ts.bup and video_ts.ifo) no longer work properly. (The DVD plays back as normal, but the video sometimes runs briefly at the wrong speed.)


I was wondering if there's a simple way to regenerate these auxiliary files from the new vob files, so that I can re-author the DVD properly.

N.B. The audio format I've used is AC3 at 256, which is the same as the original format.
The menu should also remain the same as the original.

muxman or ifoedit author dvd function

you can 'inject' the new vob/ifo set back into the dvd with vobblanker replace function called from the right pgc.

Would the free version of MuxMan be sufficient? Or would I need to pay for it?

If so I'd rather use ifoedit; although I'm struggling to figure out how it works to be honest.

Have opened the video_ts.ifo which shows the 5 titles; but the "Create New IFOs" function seems to do nothing.


Ah I see now that you have to open each title ifo and then select "Create New IFO" for each one. Is that all that's required?

free muxman works fine.

In ifoedit go to dvd author > author new dvd
load in the video, subs, chapters and set destination then click ok.

It's the same basic thing with muxman but it has a little more stuff, and you enter chapter file from file menu.

IfoEdit doesn't seem to be working at all: it just says: "synchronisation failure" when I try to create new ifo's.

If I try instead to use "DVD author" it won't let me add more than 1 title for some reason (which is no good, as I have 5 titles each in a separate vob).

It should be pretty straightforward with IFOEdit...
If you have your VOBs named properly to VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, VTS_01_3.VOB, etc..
Then when you open IFOEdit and press 'Create IFOs', the 'Create New IFO files' dialogue box would open... then select first VOB of titleset, and it should create the necessary IFOs & BUPs for all of your VOBs together.

The original DVD had the vob's named as follows:
VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_02_1.VOB, VTS_03_1.VOB, etc..., which is obviously not the same as what you've written.
I'll try renaming them to your naming convention and see if that solves the problem.

Try first "Get VTS Sectors" (IFOedit) for your original disc. It may work. You may need to repeat the procedure several times. You have to fire it up, set VTS sectors, save then close. Then start again. This is necessary because of a known bug. In my case, the starting points of the chapters and movies are ok, but the end jump (back to menu) disappears in nirvana.

If it doesn't work, then move all your original IFOs into a new folder, keeping only the VOBs. Then use Create IFOs - this should be the first command in IFOEdit. Then close IFOedit, fire it up again and set language etc. Don't forget to save. I'm not sure if this will keep the menu, I never did this on a full disc.

Finally, try demuxing the whole thing in pieces (be sure to get one file per stream (eg 1 file for video, 1 file for each audio language, 1 file for each subtitle language etc.) - you may use any ripper), then Author New DVD in IFOedit as the first command. Pay attention to the delays (ripper). You'll loose the menus.

The last and the best solution is to reauthor the whole movie with a software that does what you need (you can do it also for free ->http://download.videohelp.com/liquid217/dvdauthorgui.pl).

Which path do you want to follow depends entirly on you and if the original menus a so cute to worth keeping :D
