Hello!

This problem appeared recently on both xvids & HDs. Acording to the source, the level of "blockyness" differs, but it's very visible. The worst problems are in the dark areas, but blocks are noticeable in bright areas as well. The rips are more than fine, with enough bitrate. I checked with some files that played fine some time ago without artifacts, and now they display them during playback.

I've tryied with different players (BSPlayer, VLC, Media Player Classic - HC), different XViD builds - same thing. I checked with some of my own encodes, that were confirmed to look great on other computers without any blocks, and they display them on mine. That was some time ago!

My current encodes, appear blocky on ALL computers more recently. No matter what XViD build I used or settings (if it's usefull - 2pass, bitrate was around 1600-1800, No QPEL, NO GMC, 1 B-VOP max).

ALL videos display similar artifacts, though not as strong - both on BW & colour movies.

As I was reading on a previous topic about dots appearing to do RAM or so, could it be a hardware issue? I tryied replacing & reinstalling the drivers. No difference.

Could it be a software issue? Thank you for your time!

Could you upload a small clip of that to mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/) or some other file server site, preferrably no waiting or captchas?

Virtualdub/Nandub can cut, audio isn't needed.

Install CCCP, tick "reset all settings" in the CCCP Settings window. My friend had a similar problem and this fixed it (yesterday). Doing this fixes almost everything, actually, lol :P
