Encoding PAL video with HCenc

I'm trying to encode a video using HCenc for my dvd. My DVD player only plays PAL. The original video file has a 23.9760 frame rate, 720x568 res and it's an mkv file. When I load the video into HCgui it says there is a resolution/frame rate mismatch.

The problem is that after I encode the video and play it in Media player classic, the time is wrong (it says it's 27 seconds when it is really 1 minute and 30 something seconds.. DVDstyler also detects the wrong time for the video.

You must first make video to be compactible with PAL standard, Resolution must be 720x576 and framerate must be 25fps. You can do easly with avisynth

Do you mean 720x576? If not then resize the video to 720x576.

I would ignore the warnings about mismatched frame-rate / size for now, and just encode at 23.976 fps.

Then use the DGPulldown (http://neuron2.net/dgpulldown/dgpulldown.html) program to do a custom pulldown from 23.976 to 25 fps.

This would be the easiest solution IMO.

Resize to 720x576 is the thing you need to do, then you'll either use DGPulldown like Bogalvator said or you do a PAL speedup. That means that you'll speed up the video and sound to 25fps.

Or you can use a all-in-one tool like AVStoDVD or FAVC and forget almost everything.

Yes but how does, for example, your software go about the conversion from NTSC to PAL?

What do you exactly want to know? All the steps used by AVStoDVD? Just try it, the log file will be full of info... ;)

Roughly speaking, it resizes to PAL resolution and converts FPS using AviSynth scripting language.
