capturing from camcoder

I have mainboard KFVZA ver 1.g, Duron 750, 250M RAM, 40M 7200 HDD, MVGA-NVG11AM(400)64MB w/TV,Tuner TV PV-BT878P+FM NICAM.
I would like capture video from my 8mmHi camcoder. As a result of capturing I need svdc that is as good as oryginal SVHS. I tried do it but I have no experience. All my capturing using VirtualDub by huffyu, PICVID and uncompressed at different resolution at win98 are very poor.At the beginnig I would like have avi that is just lake SVHS

Do I need better hardvare? or what to do?

When you say poor,

-Are you getting frames dropped (jerky movement,etc)?
If so, check out most questions on this forum deal with workarounds or solutions for frame drop.

-Is your picture quality bad (grainy, bad color etc)?
May be capture card problem - what resolutions did you try?

Indeed, you need to tell us what settings you're using and describe the problem better.

Just so you know, some quality will always be lost when capturing from an analog source. However, you can use video filters to help improve the quality. Visit my video guide or http://www.vcdhelp.com for more information.

When I say poor quality I mean visual difference between my orginal VHS and my work. The picture is not sharp, is interlace (I use smart deinterlacer)moreover there is some distortion couple pixels wide along the picture bottom. I tried capture at 25fps at 384x288, 640x480, 720x576 using huffyuv.
Sometimes when capturing CPU usage is 30% and I am losing frames?
Sometimes I do not lost any frame and picture is jerking?
I encode my avi with bbavi2mpg2.

Interlacing is normal, as is the lines you see at the bottom of the video. You don't see the lines on your TV because your TV doesn't show that part of the image. You can crop off the offending lines with VirtualDub if you desire.

The lack of sharpness could be related to the deinterlacing. Depending on how you deinterlace, you could remove important detail. Try easing back on the strength of the deinterlacer.

VirtualDub will tell you if you're dropping frames in the capture statistics.
If your video is jerky when it's a Huffyuv AVI, that's normal. Huffyuv is not a playback format. Try converting the video to a playback format (like MPEG-1) to see if it plays more smoothly.
