Hi. I stumbled over a request for info at work today and i was a bit unsure how to respond myself.
The question is: For SD content (pal D1), will HP give any benefits vs MP on SD content?

I can see on wikipedia that:

8x8 vs. 4x4 Transform Adaptivity
Quantization Scaling Matrices
Separate Cb and Cr QP control

Is not supported under MP, but it is under HP.

Any h.264 experts ere mind giving me a comment on this ?

best regards TEB

8x8 vs. 4x4 Transform AdaptivityGives some benefits (less than for HD, but still quite appreciable)
Quantization Scaling Matrices That's custom matrices, so if you don't use them, you don't care, and if you do, you can't use main profile. So irrelevant
Separate Cb and Cr QP control Mostly useless

Gives some benefits (less than for HD, but still quite appreciable)Dunno, I find that the 8x8 transform seems to be practically equally useful at all sane resolutions; the only place it isn't is with animated content or such.

Or better said, the 4x4 transform is equally useless.
