anyone have any 'real' world experience using and comparisons with other high-end codecs?
i'm not looking for guesses, conjecture, spectulation, or BS.

how would it compare to say Aurora? or AJA? do you have any benchmarks you could post?

So.... there is no quality difference. Any size difference would be due to the container format, and that would be totally negligible.
I've used BlackMagic 10 bit 4:2:2 before, and it's just fine, as you'd expect uncompressed YUV to be.
If you mean speed benchmarks? I don't have those.

speed benchmarks definetely would be a plus. i am trying to benchmark the intel ipp, BM, and any other commerical or free higher bit compressors i can get a hold of.
i have an older version of the BM codec and it doesn't appear to be fully threaded, it chokes along on one cpu with a quad system so i'm missing that data point.
have you noticed any QT problems for playback? if not what version of libs do you have? QT supposedly supports higher bit encoded files, but either my codec is too old or QT is too new.

I was using it on Mac OS X 10.4 with FCP 5.5 (I think), and had no problems, aside from the massive I/O requirement associated with uncompressed 1080p24 @ 10 bit 4:2:2! You are writing to a RAID, right?

thanks for the inputs. the drive is a 2TB FW800 stripped at Raid 0.

That's not enough for HD.
You need at least 3 hard drives, preferably more, connected via SATA. 800mbps is less than half the required bandwidth.

Just another notice to say I've used the Blackmagic codecs to store video from Digital Betacam before feeding it to CCE SP2. No issues.

Thanks for update, this film is only B&W, Y16, not RGB. What I've done create a huge contiguous buffer block in ram and FIFO the shit out of it, straight, hard synchronous pulls, no other devices hanging off the FW bus.
Also if you get the unibrain FW drivers, they completely crush the default MS drivers.

What kind of sustained transfer speeds are necessary from your HDD array to handle this without any dropped frames? What are the other system specs? How did you make this specialized workflow?
