Hello all...

I'm having an extremely frustrating time trying to convert DTS wav file to a DVD-Audio. My car plays DVD-Audio and I have tried practically all the programs I can find on the net (Googleling) and have absolutely hit a brick wall.

Every software I have tried comes out as white noise.
I have no idea what to do nor do I know if anything exists to do such a thing.

I know it's done cause I've read people do it.
I've seen SACD to DVD-A but I wish I knew how.

If anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance:thanks:

PS. I would like to keep the DTS track and not resample it.

Since you haven't had any replies yet, here's my 2 cents worth...

I assume you want to play a multichannel dtsdisc (dtswav) in your car which is equipped with a DVD-Audio player. A lot of multichannel DVD-Audio discs also have dts & ac3 tracks so those who don't have a DVD-A player can play these lossy formats with a regular DVD player. I don't have a DVD-A in the car, so I'm not sure if they can play regular DVD's with dts or ac3 audio, you need the required decoder, however a DVD-A player should have an mlp decoder built into it.

Since you say all you get is hiss when playing back a DTD disc you probably do not have a dts decoder built into your player. So you need to decode the multichannel dtsdisc to multi mono wavs (there are several free decoders available), then use DVD-A authoring tool such as discWelder to create a hybrid DVD-Audio disc. Depending on the number of channels (i.e. 4-ch) you may be able to use other cheaper DVD-A authoring tools handle PCM tacks only, there since are limitations to all DVD formats, related to the speed at which players can transfer and translate the data from the disc, the maximum rate being 9.6Mbits/sec. At 96kHz / 24-bits, Stereo audio has a bit rate of 4.6Mbits/sec, four channels would push the limits to 9.2Mbits/sec, 11.52Mbits/sec for five-channel surround. Combinations of high-resolution and/or channel count can exceed the speed limit, hence the use of Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP).

So the best would be if you have DVD-A authoring s/w which can handle MLP (Meridian Lossless Packing) format, so you don't need to not worry about bitrate limitations for playback on your DVD-A car player, but then you also need an MLP encoder to encode the (dtswav decoded) (i.e. 6) mono wavs to mlp. You could also resample from 44.1kHz to 96kHz and convert 16-bit to 24-bit, before encoding to mlp, but you don't have to. You would probably at less need to resample to 48kHz since DVD-A is still a DVD format, don't think it would playback properly at 44.1kHz which is what it is after you decoded it from dtsdisc.

I would suggest the following solution: in graphedit decode dtswav to 6ch wav ex, then author a DVD-A in Cirlinca DVD-Audio Solo using the resulted 6ch wav + cue. More details in topic dedicated to dtswav to mp3surround transcoding.
