Problem with AVCHD video from a PANASONIC HDC-SD9 camcorder

Hey there!

I've just recently bought a PANASONIC HDC-SD9 camcorder which records in full hd.

The only problem is: I want to downsample the AVCHD videos filmed with this camcorder to MPEG2 (standard DVD).

I've copied the *.MTS file to my harddrive and tried to author them in TMPGEnc 4.6.3.267 XPress and TMPGEnc 3.0.9.166.

The result of this downsampling process to MPEG2 is a video which is very pixelated.

Why is this so?
What am I doing wrong?

I've used the software which came with the camcorder, HD Writer 2.5E and the downsampling to MPEG2 worked (for a short video I just made to check out the software.)

Is there any other way to downsample to MPEG2, other than with HD Writer 2.5E?

That looks like a PAFF decoding issue.

I have no idea how TMPGenc takes its input but I'm guessing you'll need a more recent decoder. One of the recent ffdshow-tryouts should work:

I just realised that I had an old version of TMPGEnc, actually the second to last one.

The newest supports AVCHD, works just fine now!
